Hey everyone,

The month of March is a GREAT month to come along to cheer on the Houston Aeros in their bid for success this season. Currently second in the Western Division the Aeros are fired up and attempting to bring a title or two back to H-town.

The Aeros have put together a link for us to buy discount hockey tickets for each of the 5 games through out the month of March. This gives us the flexibility of not being tied to any one night (as everyone's schedules are different) and it gives you the ability to sell discounted tickets to your family, friends and co workers for the games.

These games take place

March 2nd, 13th, 25th 27th and 31st!

Prices are as follows:
-Center Ice Club Seats-$25 (Day of game $38 - Saving $13)
-Lower Level Attack Seats-$17 (Day of game $26 - Saving $9)
-Upper Level Defense Seats-$9 (Day of game $16 - Saving $7)

To buy your tickets, CLICK HERE:

Possible Move to Houston
My fiance and i may be moving to Houston soon and i'm wondering where all the "hip", "trendy" areas are. The neighbor hoods where you can find local boutiques and not so main stream hang outs and shops. Also, i would like to eventually find a somewhat historic home in a nice neighborhood close to one of the areas. I am so clueless as to what areas to search online... any help would be appreciated.

Just to let you know we are both in our late 20's; have no children; professional and artistic...

If anyone is familiar with the Little Five Points Area of Atlanta that may help... i'm looking for areas similar to that location.

Thanks.

Some Questions..
Hello!  Im coming to Houston on Monday, and am staying at the Omni Houston Hotel. I am coming for work, and will only have one evening to go for dinner. Being that I have never been to Texas, I want to try real Texas BBQ. Can anyone recommend a fairly decent priced (I'm on a very tight budget) BBQ resteraunt in or around the Omni or downtown Houston? Also, can anyone ballpark hwo much a cab ride from the hotle to downtown Houston would roughly cost? Thanks guys! I am so excited to be visiting and am counting the days until I'm there!

Deer Park Dialect Survey.

Researcher: Meghan Oxley, Graduate Student, University of Washington Department of Linguistics

Purpose of Research:
The purpose of this study is to collect information on the perceptions of the English spoken in Deer Park, Texas and the Southern United States.

Who I am Looking for:
Native speakers of English from Deer Park who are at least 18 years old. Speaking a language natively means that you spoke that language regularly in your home growing up and that you learned the language before reaching adolescence. If you are bilingual or multilingual you are encouraged to participate as long as English is one of the languages that you speak natively.

What to Expect:
If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a demographic questionnaire and to reflect on different dialects, making comparisons between those dialects and rating them on various features. Since this a study of your opinions, there are no right or wrong answers. The entire survey takes about 30 minutes to complete.

All information gathered in this study will remain confidential. Your name will not be published in the results of this study.

Interested?
You can access the survey by entering the following URL in your web browser:
https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/what/87812

Collapse )

Please forward this message to any friends, family, or coworkers who you believe would be eligible to participate in this study.

Moderators: I didn't see anything in the user info disallowing this type of post, but I'll be happy to take it down if it's not allowed. Cross-posted in houstontx.

Hair salon

I'm new to Houston. I am trying to get re-established with a good hair stylist/salon here who does a great job and is affordable. Specifically, that is what I typically have done for my hair and what I paid in San Diego:

Haircut - up to $25
Hair highlights -up to $110
Hair perm - up to $85

I would prefer someone or a hair salon place in Pearland (would be great if they were open on the weekends too). Do you have suggestions of a place you go to and or a hair stylist I should ask for?

best place to live in Houston?
Let's fantasize. Say, you are in your 30s-40s, have $250K to spend and looking for the best single-family house/condo location in Houston. It shall be outside of the loop (I-610), because of the high prices and shall be close-by the park or green area. Where would you look?

I would add these criteria:
- safe and relatively new neighborhood
- not too far from downtown (around beltway would be OK)
- located between 2 highways, allowing to choose the second if the traffic is bad on one.

Woodlands is nice, but too far.
Spring is nice too and affordable but also too far and fully dependant on congested I-45.
Sugarland and Clearlake - same thing.

Where else?

I have realized that there is no many large parks in town. There is Memorial Park and Hermann where estate is overpriced and overcrowded. And there is Terry Hershey. That's it. Others are just small green areas nearby. Am i wrong?

Upcoming Henna Body Art Class
The art of using henna, or mehndi, to decorate the body with exquisite and elaborate designs is ancient yet timeless. Cultures throughout Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia have used henna tattoos for ceremonies and special occasions, each contributing their own unique designs and methods. Learn the whole process of creating and painting your own henna art on yourself and others, all the way from selecting the right henna to proper after care once your design is applied.  The next class is March 14th from 9am to 1pm in the Greenway Plaza area; tuition is $52, with an additional materials fee of $10.  Go to Leisure Learning at http://www.llu.com and search “henna” or call

Thrift Stores
I'm trying to create a list of good thrift stores in Houston. Any ideas?

Are there any Thrift Stores in the Clear Lake area?

Me again! :D

I knew there was something I forgot to ask, aside from the Hockey and the crafting interests that I am looking for around the Sugar Land/ Houston area, when I move, I want to look for three things in particular, and I'd like to have some opinions on them if you don't mind!

1. A good gym to go to.
2. A good therapist.
3. A good chiropractor.

All preferrably reasonably priced :)

Thanks in advance, x posted!

Hey All!

Newbie here! :D

My name is Las, and I an Irish lady born and reared!

My other half is being sent (back) to Houston (hopefully) within the next 12-24 months.

I figure I should join a community and try and make some friends there before we move, so I at least know a few people over there!

I'm a knitter, crochter, avid hockey fan, and huge penpaller!

anyways, thought i'd say hi! :)

Buying a Used Prius
Tips on buying a used 2001 Toyota Prius? Good idea? Bad idea?

I am considering selling my brand new 2007 Honda Accord SE and buying a 2001 Toyota Prius. Most of these vehicles retail for just under 10,000 and have between 90,000 and 100,000 miles on them. I've heard rumors that the battery may have to be replaced near the 100,000 mile mark. Does anyone know if this is true? Is there a way to check the battery life? What else should I consider? Overall -- is this a good idea or a bad idea?

I also posted my question on Yahoo! Answers, so you're free to respond over there as well to share your knowledge with a broader audience.
